Excavation: Tornaig [Wester Ross]

24 April 2017, Starts: 10:00, Ends: 16:00

Excavation at Tornaig near Inverewe sponsored by NTS as part of their ALIVE (Archaeology & Landscape at Inverewe) week.

Join Trust Archaeologist Dr Daniel Rhodes and Dr Tanja Romankiewicz from the University of Edinburgh to participate in the excavation of a bronze age roundhouse overlooking the beautiful coastline of Tournaig. During this event participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the work of archaeologists and their approach to “doing a dig”. You can learn how to use archaeological tools, survey techniques, and how sites are drawn and mapped. It´s a very hands on experience which is both fascinating and fun. Free.

There is no requirement to book a place at the dig. There will be a shuttle bus in operation from Inverewe to the dig site which can transport attendees to and from the site throughout the day from 10am to 4pm. The dig site is a 20 minute walk in from the drop off point over rough, boggy terrain. All participants should ensure they have adequate footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing as the weather can be variable and change quickly. You should also take your own food and beverages to the site. There are no toilets at the dig site- the shuttle bus can take people to Inverewe for use of facilities.
