100 years of Jacobean tragedy, intrigue and romance [Inverness Museum] ...

01 September 2012

Starts: 10:00
Ends: 16:00

100 years of Jacobean tragedy, intrigue and romance – Saturday 1st September 2012

A chance to view objects from the museum’s collections that are not ordinarily on display either because of their fragile condition or the sensitive and sometimes gruesome associations they inspire!

These include a nightshirt purported to have been worn by King Charles 1 and napkins, believed to have been used to mop up the blood following his execution.

We also will display archival and artistic material related to the Jacobite period, and a selection of firearms used during the rebellions.

There will be an opportunity to engage with a curator throughout the day; a chance to hear the stories that inform these objects and their significance to our wider understanding of the turmoil, triumphs and tragedies that characterise the 17th and 18th Centuries in Scotland and beyond.

This unique curator-led exhibition will be open from 10am – 4pm.
