During the two world wars, the island groups of Orkney, Shetland, the Faroes, and Iceland, linking Europe to North America, acquired great significance. Jim will give us an insight into operations along this northern front.

Introduction to Ancient Greece

Description: The course will explore a number of aspects of Ancient Greek civilization including the emergence of democracy in Athens, cult practice and how that links with daily life and customs of the Greeks, colonization, conflict, and relations with the Persian empire. It will also cover art (vase paintings and sculpture) and architecture. Finally it will look at features of early science and the birth of Western philosopy.
