Jacobite and Redcoat Re-enactment weekend at Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore.
It is 1746 and the last Jacobite Rising has ended in a disaster at Culloden. The survivors have scattered and the Prince has taken to the heather. Redcoat soldiers are closing in on the fugitives, in search of the most valuable prize of all: the capture of the Bonnie Prince himself! Come and enjoy a weekend of skirmishes and intrigue and even meet Bonnie Prince Charlie, as Jacobite meets Redcoat.

Thread, rope and string – the basics of how the Vikings held things together with Caroline Dear. You will look at several different traditional techniques for making rope by hand using natural plants as well as having a go at spinning using a spindle. Reference will be made to archaeological finds from Scandinavia as well as the ropes and threads needed for Viking boats. At the end of the workshop each person will have ropes made from several different materials and an understanding of how important the making of thread has been to the development of Viking societies.

Wartime Invergordon: a town transformed will be launched on Saturday 15th July, 2-5pm at Invergordon Museum. This booklet pulls together the results of two community projects, one looking at WWI and the other on WWII. It contains a number of photographs, and much new information gathered by participants during the projects. It will also be possible to view the new wartime exhibition.
Entrance is free, and all are welcome. And there will be refreshments!
