Exploring Newton Point near Clashmore ...

16 July 2014

Starts: 10:00
Ends: 16:00

During the Ledmore and Migdale Memories sessions run by ARCH for the Woodland Trust, activities and buildings at Newton Point were discussed. This site appears on early maps, but in the beginning of the 19th century George Demster developed the area to be a flax mill - a very short-lived venture. Cargoes of wood, coal and other materials were imported and exported from the site over a long period of time. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was used by the Skibo estate as a boat house.

This walk, jointly organised by North of Scotland Archaeological Society (NOSAS) and ARCH will explore what remains of the past at the site, recording surviving features. Wear appropriate clothing for walking on rough ground and assume it will rain, be midgey - and don't forget sunscreen just in case. Bring a packed lunch and drinks for your needs.

Meet at Carnegie Hall, Clashmore at 10am. We will then carshare to go down the rough road to Newton Point.

If you would like to join us, please conact  either Susan at ARCH on info@archhighland.org.uk or 01349 868230 or to Anne Coombs of NOSAS on 01862 810431 or annecoombs1@gmail.com
