Explore Prehistoric Badenoch: Dun-da-lamh Hillfort by Laggan
by Badenoch Heritage: Bringing the Past to the 21st Century Project
Explore Pictish prehistory at Dun-da-lamh hillfort and Laggan Wolftrax Centre with Forestry Commission Scotland Archaeologist Matt Ritchie. This guided walk starts at Kingussie town centre where a minibus will transport you to the Laggan Wolftrax Centre. Enjoy this physically challenging and fascinating walk to the summit of Dun-da-lamh Hillfort led by an authority on Scotland's Pictish archaeology and historic landscapes. The walk covers a distance of 4.5 miles (7km) and will last approximately 4 hours, rising to a height of 600ft at the summit of Black Craig, during which you will be guided through the features of the historic landscape on the way to the Pictish fort. The fort is one of the best preserved drystone Iron Age fortifications in the Highlands with extensive views across the passes of Badenoch. Your guide will take you through the features of the fort and explain recent cutting-edge research to digitally record this extraordinary fortification. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Time: 4 hours. Grade: Challenging and strenuous in places (not suitable for all accessibilities).
