Corrugated Iron Vernacular Buildings in the Highlands

The processes of corrugating and galvanising wrought iron sheets into strong, durable, lightweight and readily transportable building materials were developed in 1829-37. They sparked off a 100-year world-wide boom in pre-fabricated corrugated iron buildings. Nowadays, the visible legacy is fast-disappearing or dilapidating but, as illustrated in this talk by Graham Clark, a surprising variety of fine corrugated iron buildings are still standing throughout the Highlands.

Fleece to Felt week
A week-long course starting with shearing the sheep, then sorting fleeces, collecting natural materials for dyes and then making some dyes, carding the wool and then felting.

Guided tour of Inverness Town House every Tuesday and Thursday between 7th May and 31st October. Tours are at 2 and 3:30pm and last about an hour.
