Justice and Society in Strathspey 1690 - 1750
Talk by Charles Fletcher
Grantown Museum. Admission £2 or Friends of Grantown Museum free. No need to book
The talk is based on the regality granted to Ludovick Grant on the 12th October 1696. This regality allowed Grant to set up a feudal franchise court, part of a system which began at the time of David 1 and ended after the Jacobite defeat at Culloden in 1746. Charles will look at some aspects of the work of Grant's regality court and how this court interacted with society in Strathspey in the early 18th century.
