Talk: 'Devoted Episcopalians, Reluctant Jacobites? [Inverness]

24 October 2012, Starts: 17:15

'Devoted Episcopalians, Reluctant Jacobites? George and James Garden and Their Spiritual Environment'.

Inverness College, UHI (Longman Building, room G20)

Dr Marie-Luise Ehrenschwendtner (University of Aberdeen) will deal with two seventeenth century Aberdonian theologians, the brothers James and George Garden, who are often used as examples for a certain type of Jacobite Episcopalianism since they had connections to Jacobite circles with interests in mystical literature.

The lecture will try to unravel whether the brothers' religious convictions tie in with their political persuasions and whether the religious or the political components determined their actions and loyalties.

The lecture will be streamed to Ross House, Dornoch and you are welcome to attend the talk there if you prefer.
