Walk: Fort and Fairy Woods [Balmacara]

15 October 2014, Starts: 09:30, Ends: 13:00

 Fort and fairy woods.

NTS Ranger will transport you from Balmacara Square to Loch Achaidh na h-Inich. Then join the Trust ranger as we explore the ancient hill fort on Carn na Sean-chriege and walk along the loch shore past the site of an old crannog. Marvel at the autumn colours, the lichen and moss clad woods. The Coille Mhor (Big Wood) is the kind of place that fairy tales are made for and is the way the woods have looked before humans interacted with the environment. Admire the views along the way and find out what makes Balmacara Estate such a special place. Bring walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing, a snack and a hot drink. Walk is approximately 4miles/6km on good surfaced paths and tracks with one gentle but long ascent. Suitable for family groups who can cope with this sort of distance. Meet: 9.30am at the National Trust for Scotland Balmacara Square Visitor Centre. Grid ref NG 806 285. Advance booking essential. Adult £5.00; children free.
