World War One – An Cogadh Mor: Ness Stories

Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

Beginning Inverness Museum and Art Gallery’s commemorations of the centenary of the Great War, this exhibition has been curated together with pupils from Inverness Royal Academy. It tells the stories of local people who participated in and were affected by the conflict. Using objects from IMAG’s collections; loans from the Highland Archives and from our wider community the exhibition invites us to explore the events of 1914 – 1918 through the lives of those who lived in the Highlands at that time.

By focusing on the ‘extraordinary ordinary’ personal stories behind the objects and archives being shown, the new research uncovered by the Academy pupils widens our understanding of just how deeply the First World War has shaped our local, Highland history.

Come and meet the young curators who have brought fresh eyes and interesting insights to the events of one hundred years ago and be amongst the first to view a number of exhibits that have never before been shown in public. You will also meet some of the living relatives of those whose stories are being told. Light refreshments will be served.
