Making a hand-sewn Coptic book

Inverness Museum and Art Gallery

Cost: £10 including materials

Join classically trained award winning bookbinder Laura West who will lead a masterclass in traditional and contemporary hand-sewn book-binding. In this full day workshop Laura will guide you in the basics of making your own hand sewn Coptic book. Called Coptic after the Coptic monasteries where these books have been discovered in North Africa, these were the first books to be bound in the codex style. To celebrate the Hunting for Lost Crafts theme of hunting shooting and fishing in the Highlands you will have the option of using real salmon skin as a covering material or Japanese silk. No tools or materials are needed and Laura will provide comprehensive course notes to take away with you at the end of the masterclass.

Place are limited and booking is essential, in person at the museum, via telephone on 01463 237114 or email Kirsten Body at  kirsten.body@highlifehighland.com
