SCAPE survey of Caithness coast
17 March 2016
SCAPE will be running a new project in Caithness in March. It will be similar to SCHARP, using the same approach to fill in the gaps in areas that haven’t yet been covered by a coastal survey.
We’ll survey the coastline between Thurso and Dunnet and will record heritage sites on the coast and their vulnerability to erosion. The survey will take place between the 16th and 23rd March. A training event at Caithness Horizons on 16th March will cover everything participants need to know, and over the following week we’ll walk the coast and record sites and their condition.
This week will be a pilot study to help us develop a larger scale community survey of a longer stretch of coast. An evaluation evening on the 22nd March, also at Caithness Horizons, will be an opportunity for participants to give us feedback to help plan the next steps and develop a wider project to help us understand the archaeology of the Caithness coast and the threats it faces.
