Tarradale House on the Black Isle: from medieval castle to laird's house

Online talk by Dr Eric Grant

Organised by Groam House Museum. Tickets for the lecture are available through Art Tickets (part of Artfund).

In the 13th century Tarradale Castle was described as one of the strongest in the country but there is nothing to be seen on the ground today and excavations have been somewhat inconclusive. Nevertheless a great deal is known from a documented point of view about what happened to the castle at the hands of Robert Bruce and the subsequent reoccupation of the site in the 16th and 17th centuries and how it developed into the laird's house that survives today. The talk will also look at some of the previous owners of Tarradale House and their importance locally and further afield.
