Connecting Tools in the Dutch Neolithic
Talk by Professor Annelou van Gijn, University of Leiden
Meston Building (lecture theatre 1), University of Aberdeen
Organised by Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Prehistoric Society.
Archaeological artefacts like flint are frequently studied in isolation and not as part of a toolkit, let alone as part of a technological system.
This lecture will show how a combination of micro-wear (use wear) analysis and experimental archaeology can shed light on the technological and functional relationships between different find categories. This will be illustrated by two case studies, one on Neolithic amber and jet ornaments, the second on the toolkit involved in Neolithic house building.
Tickets free of charge, but booking in advance advised to avoid disappointment.
