Survey and Excavation at Hilton of Cadboll, on the Seaboard peninsular to investigate anomalies previous identified by geophysical survey. Project run by Hilton Historic Trust and HES, with excavation led by Cathy MacIver of AOC. There is also an open public day, Saturday 16th September.

The Science of Metals and its Role in UK Heritage
Conference organised by Department of Archaeology, University ofReading, and the REMADE project
The conference will focus on interconnected themes: Roman and Medieval metallurgy; science in UK heritage; increasing access to scientific analysis of small finds; ethics and protocols for sampling archaeological material; displaying and communicating scientific results to the public; open access research.
Confirmed speakers include Keynote: Hella Eckardt (Reading); Peter Bray(Reading); Frances McIntosh (English Heritage); Gail Boyle (BristolMuseum); Sam Moorhead (PAS and British Museum); Gemma Lewis (Durham);Glynn Davis (Colchester Museums), Philippa Walton (Reading).
REMADE is a new initiative led by Dr. Peter Bray (UKRI Future LeadersFellow) to bring together new chemical analysis of Roman and early Medieval copper-alloys, small find specialists, and organisations fromacross the UK heritage sector. It will develop a new chemical and archaeological framework for copper-alloys from these periods, while also creating links and initiatives for promoting archaeological sciencein museums, units, and trusts.
Participation is free and open to everyone, lunch and refreshments willbe provided at the venue. A guided walk around Dornoch stopping at points to see and hear about the places and people that have shaped the town over hundreds of years. Stops include Dornoch Castle, Dornoch Cathedral, the Mercat Cross and Plaiden Ell, Dornoch Light Railway and Station Hotel , the golf course and witches stone.The walk takes around 1.5 hours on pavements and footpaths.
