Dig: Brodie Castle ...

13 October 2024

The dig at Brodie Castle near Forres will follow the same format as previous years. Volunteers are sought to help both on the week days to staff the dig and the weekend to help run the open public event (e.g. introducing families to archaeological excavation chatting about artefacts from the dig and helping with logistics/registration etc – as an added incentive we also have a medieval reenactment group with us on Sunday!). Volunteers can choose only to dig if they wish.

Please contact Daniel Rhodes on drhodes@nts.org.uk. Some accomadation is available onsite

Ault Brodie Day [Brodie] ...

13 October 2024

Starts: 11:00
Ends: 15:00

Ault Brodie Day

At Brodie Castle

This is a living history event where you can see what life would have been like throughout the centuries of Brodie Castle's life. With displays and demonstrations, you can get a flavour of history in an entertaining way. Tickets for Auld Brodie are £5 each and can be purchased on Eventbrite

Medieval Realm, an experienced re-enactment group since 2005, will be running living history displays spread over 4 authentically styled tents adding a touch of entertainment to the history!

The tents will have displays of weapons through the ages, medieval book binding, medieval games and ale making to delve into and enjoy. They will also have 3 different demonstrations at different times throughout the day:

12 Noon - Fashion Show - A look at how fashion changed through the centuries

1pm - Knights School - Sword training for the younger visitors, including a kids Brodie Battle!

2pm - Weapons Show - A show and tell look at some of the different weapons used through the centuries

Each demo will last 25 minutes.

Running in tandem with the living history, you can see the NTS Archaeology Team in action hunting for the hidden history of the Brodie Estate. If you have ever wondered what archaeologists do and wanted to make your own historical find? If so, head over to their area where you can ask questions
