Researching Local History [Dingwall] ...

 Following on from the sessions in March, Susan Kruse of ARCH will offer four workshops at Dingwall Library in September and October as part of the High Life Highland You Time sessions, Tuesdays, 10-11:30am. All welcome, even if you did not attend the first sessions. We will explore how to research local history, using Dingwall as an example and culminating in a walk. Topics covered will be:
16th Sept: On-line heritage databases
23rd Sept: Old maps, especially those available on the Internet
7th Oct: Statistical Accounts and other sources
14th Oct: Heritage Walk
(Note: no course on 30th Sept). These sessions are free to High Life Highland members. For others: standard: £4.75 per session; over 60s: £2.35 per session; budget (income support): 50p per session. Bookings to Dingwall Leisure Centre or Dingwall Library.

Join the Ranger on a circular walk from Fort William to Inverlochy. Discover some of the local history from the Old Fort to Old Inverlochy Castle, then a gentle climb to the top of the Tomnahara graveyard. Walking over paths and rough ground at low level. Reasonable level of fitness required. Meet at the Tourist Information Centre, Fort William. Advance booking essential.

MacKinnon of Strath, though an old man in 1745, was a staunch supporter of the Young Pretender. A visit to Uamh a’ Phrionnsa (Prince Charlie’s Cave) where the Prince was hidden until a boat came to take him back to France, then on to Rubha na h-Easgainne. Walking over rough/boggy ground and some hills. Reasonable level of fitness required. Meet at Elgol Pier. Grid ref NG 516 135. Advance booking essential. Adult £3.00; concession £2.00; family £8.00.
