Scotland’s earliest animal carvings

In May 2021, Historic Environment Scotland released exciting news of the discovery of animal carvings in the Early Bronze Age burial cairn at Dunchraigaig in Kilmartin Glen. This unprecedented find was publicised around the world and even satirised on Radio 4’s News Quiz. This talk explores the story behind the discovery and the subsequent investigations by Scotland’s Rock Art Project and Historic Environment Scotland, in collaboration with Kilmartin Museum, to authenticate the carvings as the earliest known animal depictions in Scotland.

Online workshop orgainsed by Make Your Mark. Free. The workshop will review key learnings from the Make Your Mark Inclusive Vounteering Toolkit. Zoom bookings on Eventbrite

As the Highland Heritage Days highlighted, volunteering is an issue that affects all groups and museums This workshop is designed to support heritage groups develop more inclusive volunteer programs. 

At this event, participants will learn how to:

  • Explain the benefits of and business case for inclusive volunteering
  • Identify barriers to and enablers for volunteering
  • Adapt volunteer roles to suit a wider range of people

Format

The workshop will begin with a short introduction to Make Your Mark and the Inclusive Volunteering Toolkit. Participants will then engage in a mix of larger and smaller group discussions to complete tasks and network with each other.
