Ancient Textile Crafts

Nairn Museum

This course run by Lynne McKeggie of ARCH will consist of a series of workshops, looking at different ancient textile crafts. In each workshop participants will learn how to do the craft and work towards making an item which they will be able to take home with them. The crafts and items shall be as follows:
• Week 1: Fingerloop Braiding: make a bracelet
• Week 2: Weaving: make a bag
• Week 3: Tablet Weaving: make a bookmark
• Week 4: Naal-binding: make a corsage or mouse.
During the workshop there will be a presentation about the history of the skill, all of which were developed in the Pre-historic, Early Historic and Medieval periods. This will then be related to the history and archaeology of the local area.
