Travellers’ Tales: shelters, crafts and stories

Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore. Free, drop in event.

Travellers’ Tales is a unique and immersive event, offering visitors to the museum glimpses of Traveller life in the past.  During the Festival of Museums the Highland Folk Museum will celebrate Traveller culture with an event centred on the building of a Sutherland bough tent, the traditional home of Highland Travellers. Alongside the building of the bough tent, visitors will be able to watch and, in some cases, try out some traditional Traveller crafts, including paper flower making.  Once the tent has been built it will provide the setting for an afternoon session of storytelling by Traveller tradition bearers, who will tell stories in both Gaelic, and Scots and English. Supported by MGS Festival of Museums
