Saints and their cults were a crucial part of medieval religion. For the houses of transnational monastic orders like the Cistercians, they represented a key point of cultural interaction with surrounding lay populations. This talk will examine the surviving liturgical evidence for Cistercian abbeys in medieval Scotland to explore how saints commemorated at particular houses reflected local culture.
