Site Tour: Prehistoric Rock Art at the Clava Cairns [Culloden]

01 November 2023, Starts: 14:00, Ends: 16:00

Prehistoric Rock Art at the Clava Cairns

The Clava Cairns are on the ‘tourist trail’ around Inverness.  Lots of people visit these impressive monuments, but few take time to examine the rock art built into them.

There are about 17 panels (with cup marks, grooves, and cup and ring marks) of different types, some of which are ‘hidden’.  Why are they built into the cairns?  Is their positioning in the cairns significant?  How do they relate to other rock art in the area?

Alan Thompson will lead a walk around the cairns where we will find and talk about the panels there.

Email Alan at to sign up. Prebooking essential. Open to members of the public. The event is part of NOSAS 25.
