Focus on Finds workshops with ARCH

02 March 2012

Looking at finds in Goram House MuseumHighland Council’s Independent Museums Support Officer, Lorna Cruickshank, has  been in touch to say that there are a few places left on two Focus on Finds workshop days that are being run by ARCH Project Officer, Susan Kruse.

The two days are Thursday 8 March and 15 March from 10am – 3.30pm in the Tarbat Discovery Centre, Portmahomack.

The first day will provide a chronological overview of heritage in the Highlands from earliest settlers to recent times, with the emphasis on typical finds through to the Medieval period, followed by a practical session on using the HER and other major sources of information on the web.

For the second day, participants  can bring an object or picture of a find dating up to the Medieval period - the museums that are attending will be bringing their own, and we can borrow from Inverness Museum - so no need to worry if you don’t have one. Participants will research the object, create a short description which could be used for a label, photograph the object, and then submit an entry to the HER.

No previous experience is necessary.

The workshops are free with tea, coffee and biscuits provided, though participants should bring their own packed lunch.
