Heritage Lottery Fund and Archaeology Scotland to offer funding advice at Taking Part in the Past
06 April 2012
We're delighted that both the Heritage Lottery Fund and Archaeology Scotland will be heading to the Taking Part in the Past family festival to offer funding advice on grants that are available to community groups. This will include information about a new Heritage Lottery Fund grant scheme ‘All Our Stories’ targeting community heritage.
‘Taking Part in the Past‘ is a free family festival celebrating Highland community archaeology, which is being held in Dingwall Academy from 10.00 – 4.00 on Saturday 21 April.
The festival is being hosted by ARCH (Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands) and will be attended by heritage organisations from across Highlands in a packed programme of talks, workshops and activities.
ARCH Chair, Cait McCullagh said, “We’re delighted that both the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Archaeology Scotland will be joining us at the festival. Funding from HLF has made all ARCH’s community work throughout the Highlands possible, and this will be a great opportunity for community groups and organisations to find out how the Heritage Lottery Fund and other funders can help them to get their projects underway.”
The Heritage Lottery Fund has invested a total of more than £29 million in projects across Highland, including community archaeology, building restoration like the East Church, Cromarty, conserving local biodiversity, restoring steam engines and researching local history.
Archaeology Scotland has also received generous funding from HLF for their Adopt a Monument project, which is enabling them to offer training workshops across Scotland and run projects such as ‘Minding Merkinch’ which works with young people, to help them discover more about their local heritage, and learn new skills at a series of practical workshops. Cait McCullagh is delighted to have two such pro-active organisations attending, saying,
“The team at ARCH has organised a tremendous programme for the day, with talks from community archaeology groups, varied workshops - including finding out how to become an archaeologist and a chance to meet that famous Viking Eric the Dead! There will also be a host of stands and stalls and a heritage crafts marketplace.
“As well as facilitating a funding workshop at 1.45, Louise Hastie,HLF Development Officer, and Cara Jones from Archaeology Scotland will be available to chat to folk throughout the day, and they’re really looking forward to helping as many people as possible to realise their project dreams.”
