Stevenson Lighthouses and other Cromarty attractions
02 September 2012
Cromarty from Friday 7 September to Sunday 9 of September is a great place to be if you're interested in history, art and literature. These are the dates of the Black Isle Words festival, whose theme this year is Salty Dogs and Sea Tales. There are some fascinating events in store for visitors to the festival - not least being Alison Morrison-Low talking about Stevenson Lighthouses and Peter Aitchison looking at the history of, and background to, the Eyemouth fishing disaster - download the full programme from their website.
There will also be the chance to visit the Cromarty Lighthouse and many other historic Cromarty buildings on the Saturday (8th September), when they open to the public as part of Doors Open Day in Ross and Cromarty, when there will also be Black Isle Words workshops at the Lighthouse. The work of two artists-in-residence, Stephen Hurrel and Mark Lyken, is on show at the lighthouse throughout the week, and there are also a number of interesting talks on ffer.
