Fire and Water in Assynt

Assynt Festival logoFire and Water is the archaeological part of a week long Assynt Festival running from 3 - 10 October.

The festival website has all the details of what's happening, but these are the archaeological activities they've got lined up for you:

Wed 3 – Wed 10 October (excluding Sun 7th) 9 - 4

  • Excavation of a Burnt Mound (Bronze Age water heating site) at Stronchrubie
  • Test Pits and Auguring
  • Experimental workshops

 

Stronchrubie is at NC 249 186 just off A 837 south of Inchnadamph. Parking at Stronchrubie Lodge 400m north of site to the west of the road

Visitors are welcome at any time 3 – 6 and 8 – 10 October 9am – 4pm

Volunteers to help with excavation and associated fieldwork very welcome

Sat 6 October : Music Through the Ages workshops, stories & demonstrations) at Stronchrubie 10 – 4 and Ceilidh with Assynt songs in Lochinver 8pm

Sun 7 October : 10.30 – 3.30 Heritage Trail 3 Assynt’s Neolithic sites (cars will be needed)

Mon 8 October : 2-4 Heritage Trail 4 Clachtoll

Tues 9 October : 2-4 Heritage Trail 5 Eddrachalda near Inchnadamph
