 Brief for development assistance on
Telford’s Highland Heritage project

About ARCH:
Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands (ARCH) provides exciting and innovative projects to encourage people with diverse interests and abilities in the Highlands to learn about, record and participate in celebrating and increasing knowledge of their local heritage. ARCH does this in a number of ways including classroom learning, practical outdoor sessions, group project work, or via a virtual community. Information about ARCH’s activities and projects can be found on this website

Telford’s Highland Heritage
Thomas Telford had a major impact on the Highlands in the early 1800s. As engineer and project manager extraordinaire, he was  responsible for  revolutionising transport in the region, with hundreds of miles of new roads, bridges of iron and stone, canals, many piers and harbours. He also was responsible for building churches, manses and even towns. This project will allow local people to learn about and record their heritage, publicising the results locally and including them in databases of heritage available over the internet.
